Hi Cake Fans,

I hope everyone's been keeping it sweet- I know it's been an absolute age since I last blogged (shame on me) but I've been looking forward to sharing this project with you for a while now.....

Last week was my sister's long awaited baby shower and although as I type this I am STILL trying to get all the sugar out of my system, I had such a blast designing and making and baking all the treats and sweets that we happily stuffed our faces with on the day.

From left to right/top to bottom:
Design doodles for treats, hand made signs, baby themed cookies and hand made chocolate buttons for favours.

The morning of the baby shower was a tad hectic to say the least-the hours seemed to turn into minutes and so with my arms heavy with all the treats I could possibly carry it was a race against time (and the rain) to get there and set up.

Two hours late and practically drowned from the rain we set up as best as we could......

Ta-Da- Our finished Baby Shower tea party =)

Along with a selection of delicious mini sandwiches, quiches, mini pies and bagels we had a range of calorific treats including mini scones with clotted cream and jam of course, pecan pies, fruit tarts raspberry and chocolate brownies, raspberry mille feuille, mini eclairs and mini cupcakes.
There were perhaps a few too many- but like with everything life's better with options ;)
Everything was washed down with home-made strawberry lemonade and tea.

The baby shower cake managed to survive getting dragged through a rain/wind storm and on three separate bus journeys- although a little cracked and lop sided in places it made it to the party- what a relief! =)

A big thank you to everyone for coming and making the day super special for my sister it was so touching to see the love and support from all of her amazing friends and family.

Happy Halloween All!!

Gosh, the year has gone by like a bullet train and has now pulled into the most eerie and macabre stop of all... HALLOWEEN!!

Mini chocolate cupcakes with fondant letters and hand-crafted maggots and an oreo crushed crumb.

Although we may be a little too old to go out trick or treating (age ain't nuffin' but a number, really).
But on the plus side of being a (sort of) grown up is that we get to make and bake deliciously spooky goodies and then proceed to stuff our faces with them.

Cast your timid eyes below for a haunting glimpse of our frighteningly good treats. First is our vanilla based biscuits with royal icing detail and white chocolate hand-made skeleton skulls. Second is a bat-shaped version of the biscuits. Next is our fiendishly sweet and zesty lime and chocolate macaroons.

Below are our spider web biscuits 'crawling' with hand-made dark chocolate spiders.

They taste delicious if we don't mind saying so ourselves and they are definitely a treat we wouldn't mind bumping into and munching on in a dark alley.

Whatever you're up to this Halloween we hope you have a frightfully spook-tastic day, for more Halloween treats and photo's please visit our Facebook page!!

A Very Casual Cake......

The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival came to an end today and last weekend we were there with the main aim of giving a special cake to famed author, J.K Rowling to celebrate her new novel The Casual Vacancy.

Now we were unsure of what cake to actually make, perhaps cupcakes with small handcrafted models of the book? It had to be something special and easy to transport so after finalising the design we got to work on making the best cake we possibly could.

We caught the coach at Victoria Coach station with minutes to spare (phew!) and were finally on our way to the festival hurrah!! The coach ride was going to be a long one so we managed to catch a few Zzz's while desperately trying to keep the cake intact.

After a derrière numbing 4 hour coach journey on the grand ol' National Express we finally found ourselves in the aforementioned quintessential English town.

With excitement in our hearts and a slightly heavy cake in hand we made our way to the Cheltenham Racecourse where the event was taking place. The racecourse was a beautiful venue, grand and very green....somewhere that we will definitely like to visit again.

To say the event was full to the brim would be an understatement.  There were many other events going on (we even managed to catch a glimpse of the one and only Roger Moore) but the buzz definitely seemed to be focused on J.K Rowling with over 2,200 fans waiting to see her.

Security were strict and we were told that there was a slim chance that we could give J.K Rowling the cake, our hearts sank and having travelled all the way from London there was no way that we were handing over the cake to anyone but the lady herself.

After lots of waiting around with people passing on countless messages to security we were told that we could give our cake to J.K Rowling and that's exactly what we did.

The cake was made to the exact dimensions of the book, it was a vanilla sponge with a white chocolate vanilla buttercream, Coloured white chocolate fondant and hand-cut details.

We really hope J.K Rowling enjoyed the cake, for more photo's visit our Facebook page!!

Petunia Rascal

One of Cake-a-doodle Tu's favourite comic books is Petunia Rascal. This cheeky girl loves sweet treats as much as we do so in her and her crew's honour we decided to make some cupcakes P Rascal would be proud of...

Petunia Rascal's creator, Stuart Atholl Gordon kindly drew the characters which we then turned into delicious cake toppers.

For those unfamiliar with the comics here's a rundown of who's who:

Petunia Rascal (left): The mischievous leader of the skate pirates who loves causing trouble.
Jolly Rodney (right): Her right-hand lad. Has a tall barnet. The 'sensible' one.

Bill Pukes: The crew's supplies expert. Constantly seasick (even on dry land).

Jenny Greenteeth: Sea hag who has her own line of perfumes. Doesn't like Petunia much.

You can see more pics on our Facebook page.

Happy Halloween

Afternoon cake fans, we hope you're having spook-tastic Halloween. At Cake-a-doodle Tu we love All Hallows Eve and to celebrate this creepy occasion we have dug up a delightfully horrid batch of cupcakes. Our velvety chocolate butter cream is topped with Oreo dirt crumbs. Worming their way through the butter cream are our hand crafted white chocolate maggots! Make sure you chew them up throughly or you could end up with a creepy-crawly party in your belly. Buried underneath the cream is our moist dark chocolate sponge.

If only it could be Halloween everyday.

You can see more photos at our Facebook page.
